Legendary and internationally acclaimed mbira musician, Stella Chiweshe will be celebrating 50 years in the music industry in a ‘back to my roots’ show to be held at Tanza Center in Chitungwiza tonight.
The Germany based maestro who has been in the country for her occasional visits has promised fans a grand performance citing that her shows have always been bringing good memories to her fans and herself.
“I will be celebrating my 70th birthday during tonight’s show, I am calling out to my fans to come out in their numbers and experience my greatest moment. I am still energetic as i was 10 years ago,” she said.
Local mbira acts, Andy Muridzo and Jeetaz Band, Zuva Rabuda group and Nyamasvisva will be taking to stage as supporting acts and Chiweshe is going to be backed by Stella Chiweshe Mbira Trio and the Earthquake band.
“I will be taking people trhough my musical journey, performing for them my new and old tracks as well as tracks from my lattest CD Chakandiwana,”
Ambuya Chiweshe who is to return to Germany next month said she feel the void that has been left between her and her fans since her last recording and she had assured them of her plans to release her latest album before she leaves the country.
The Chachimurenga hitmaker has eight albums under her belt with Huya Uzoona, Tapera and Ndabaiwa being among the popular tracks that endeared her to a legion of followers.
Tanza management team said verything has been put in place for the show to commence.
“She is bringing with her international experience, which I think will help develop some of the upcoming artists who will be supporting acts,” he said.
