Mudhara Vachauya neGafa futi, shine at NAMA 2017


Jah prayzah(Mukudzeyi Mukombe ) and Winky D(Wallace Chirumiko), make headlines this week as they outshine the oustanding male,outastanding song,, outstanding album and people”s awards . At the 2017’s  16th edition of the National Merit Awards (NAMA) held in on the 18th of february in Harare.

This year”s edition was held under the theme ,”Partner with the arts”,organised d by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe .Saw the most celebrated artists in Zimbabwe at the moment battle for two awards each , as Jah prayzah ratained the outstanding male award and also outstanding song for Mudahara Vachauya which was a sing along in the streets during the last quarter of the year 2016.

Whilst the the Gafa futi Extra terrestial album took the outstanding album of the year 2016 and also the people”s choice awards. The big man as he likes to call himself humbled himself before his fans on social media in a “gafa state of the nation address thanking his fellow gafa and gafaresses for the support and votes, which made him to have the 15 th NAMA award in a roll”.

However there were mixed feelings , that people areattending this ceremony and watching history repeating itself as Winky D and Jah Prayzah dominated the award winning like what they did in the last year”s 15th edition of the NAMAs. Although the nominees and winners depend on the number of votes and also the project submission to the NAMA offices.

On the outstanding song in 2016 gong , some are saying Killer T the dancehall artist was robbed , since many people sang along to his single “Takangodaro” which is part of the album” Pari tricky” .Although the chairman released another second album titled “Bvunza Tinzwe”, he did not scooped any award .

Female artists such as Jesesi Mungoshi and Ammara Brown also raised the women”s flag with their work.In the film industry,popularly known with her lead role in the local blockbuster, NERIA.Jesesi Mungoshi walked away with the outstanding actress award in her role in the film Muzita Rababa, which Ammara Brown stares as the Pastor”s wife who is son to Amai Bishop which is Jesesi”s role in the drama series .

Moreso,” the watchu want from me”, singer , Ammara Brown , out shined female gospel artist Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave and the young vibrant artist Tamisanqua (Tamy)Moyo the Ndibereke hit maker, on the outstanding female category.On the comedy front ,Nqobizitha Dube , known with her  stage name Q Dube , out shined Thandeyenkosi Moyo and rising female comedian Samantha (Gonyeti) Kureya,on outstanding comedian award.

Also the outstanding video was won by Andy ” Cutta ”  Sobhuza ft Takura on Zino Irema(Ndirikukuonai zvangu).On the outstanding screen production was taken by Muzita Rababa directed by Nick Zemura from Mirazvo Productions.Which resulted in Joe Njangu a local award winning director and film maker to have mixed feelings posting on social media on his Facebook page that,”a 24 min TV series just won in a full length  feature film category…”

The national merit awards (NAMA) is the premier award given by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe in recognition of outstanding achievements in the arts and culture.The inaugural NAMA was held in February 2002 honouring artists who excelled in 2001 . Since then, NAMA award ceremonies have been held in February of each year to recognize artist who would have excelled in the previous year.
