The slightly less than Mediocre Star FM award held last Friday caused quite a caucuss in the 3 days they were planned. The announcement came without warning , Zahara the South African Divaress was coming to perform live at the HICC.With her were some local big names such as Jah Prayza and Sulumani Chimbetu , son of the late Legendary Simon Chimbetu who felt Short of eclipsing his father’s shadow by the embarrassment for the two artists.
lets be honest , no one has or had ever heard of the Star FM awards and quite frankly there are better ways of choosing employee of the month!!. That being said one would expect the 3 large acts to be able to fill the five thousand seats that HICC has to especially the ever confidant Jah prayza who is well known for making statements on how he can fill the building on His own.
It should be noted however that Jah Prayza is known for making statements on how he is the best performer onstage , not a few months ago he failed to fill Kajongwe corner having a thousand seats . This should come as less of an embarrassment for him.
Sulumani arguably is still finding his place in the industry.
We cant help but feel that perhaps Zahara was a big waste of money , I dont know what a cheque from her dinner looks like but am pretty sure its not as big as one of our local acts such as Winky D and Oliver Mutukudzi , both of which could have filled HICC (arguably) at a lower cost .
It was a fun night , those who did not show up missed out on the fun .So Sulumani won the Song of the year award for “Nyuchi Yanditenderera” a song released in 2014 . Jah Prayza won the album of the year award for “Jerusalema” , wait for it …. Both artists were on the roster for the performers that night. Anyone get the Trend here?
