The much awaited Zimbabwe Radio Awards were successfully held on the 5th of November at 1+1 Longcheng Plaza under the theme ‘Honoring a celebrity behind a celebrity‘.
The radio awards which were organised by Celebrity Check were hosted by Rumbidzai Takawira ‘news bae ‘ and an energetic Justin Mahlahla.
The awards were presented by Joshua Dube from Powertel, Kundai and Kudzai from Astro mobile and Prudence and Jabulani Diamond from Power FM among others.
The event which was meant for radio personalities, in recognition of their work in informing and entertaining people saw 28 radio DJ’s and presenters walking away with awards from 28 different categories.
Butterphly one of the award winners who scooped the best female presenter’s award, with tears of joy rolling down her cheeks, could not hide how happy and motivated she felt, after being honored with such an important award.
” I really don’t know what to say, this is my first time to win something in my life and I feel humbled that there are people who love me out there.
” I was not expecting this as I only started advertising my self a few weeks ago, Thank you guys this award means a lot to me”.
Some of the radio personalities from different radio stations who won awards in different categories thanked the public for voting and supporting them.
Thandekile from Radio Zimbabwe who walked away with the best vernacular language talk show presenter said, ” I owe this award to my station and its supporters, I could not have done it without you and I appreciate what you have done for me today”.
A few radio presenters who were not available to receive their awards were confirmed to be on duty in their radio stations and had representations to receive awards on their behalf.
A number of musicians and stars including popular musician Trevor Dongo, DJ Simth, Nicci Cavaji and K gee 40 graced the stage with their awesome performances.
Beat boxer, Probeats astonished the crowd with his exceptional talent, his ability to push the limits of the human voice to create incredible soundtracks of impossible beats and phenomenal sounds that are pure and sound like real instruments.
The Zimbabwe Radio Awards Inaugural event faced a number of challenges leading to changes in dates and venue but despite all that, It was a success and managed to give credit and honor Zimbabwe radio personalities for their value.
In his speech Zimbabwe Radio Awards spokes person, Maxwell Nyatsambo congratulated all the winners and assured the crowd that there was no manipulation of votes.
“Congratulations to all the award winners, we would like to assure you that there was no rigging of any sort, the nominees were advertising themselves on different platforms and those who had more votes are the ones that won.
“Considering the fact that this was the first time for us to hold such an event, we see it as a big success with all its highs and lows and we would like to thank all those who participated and made it a success including our sponsors, the nominees and the voters as well.
Nyatsambo said they will continue honoring Radio personalities annually and with the experience they got on the inaugural event, they believe that next year’s event will be bigger and better.
